Memorial day: at war with Yourself no more

7 PM / May 27, 2024 / Hillsboro, OR

Being human can be a battleground. There's a shell shock that comes with consenting, as infinite consciousness, to the limits of a seemingly separate body-mind, and the day to day rattling resembles a range of joy and sorrow, fear and rage.

This Memorial Day, as we honor those who died fighting for their country, let’s animate the deadened parts of our psyche and re-member ourselves as one collective body.

Inspired by Buddhist scholar and peace activist Joanna Macy's Work that Reconnects, we will play with the drama of the human experience and practice moving skillfully between the emptiness of all phenomena and the complete expression of one's emotions, thus ending the war we inflict on ourselves.

The ceremony will unfold in three acts, framed in Buddhist terms: Precious Human Birth, Great Battle with Mara, and Bardo. You’ll be invited to use silence, sound, gesture, or language to move and metabolize stuck energy. By unbinding these energies we avail ourselves to the love and connection of others.

Join us as we exercise our freedom to assemble and celebrate being alive as we remember our dead.
