Father’s day: Becoming YOur Own Authority

9 AM / June 9, 2024 / hillsboro, OR

This Father’s Day you’re invited to engage the archetypal energy of the father through your current relationship to authority, responsibility, and discipline.

We’ll reflect not only on the influence of our literal fathers and other father figures but also of the institutions that shaped us in the early part of our lives, such as schools, churches, and the culture at large.

The messages we received and beliefs we internalized become the standard by which we judge ourselves and criticize our choices. As long as we live in a state of either rebelling against or conforming to these inherited expectations, they continue to have a hold on us. We aren’t free.

MORE INFORMATION

The topic will be introduced through reference to a classic film, after which participants are encouraged to discuss their personal reflections in pairs, sussing out the themes of conformity and individuation. After a guided meditation into the Still Point, participants will form small groups and, with the support of sentence stems, begin to speak as the authority in their lives, free to transcend and include their early formation. The event will end with what’s called we-space practice.
